Terms of Service

1. Parties and agreement

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between Paul Buttle (an individual, United Kingdom), trading as VGDB ("we", "us"), and you, the person using the website and related services at vgdb.co (the "Service"). By using the Service you accept these Terms.

2. Definitions

• Service — the VGDB website and any features we provide through it.
• User Content — any content you submit to the Service, including reviews, lists, articles, screenshots, collection entries, votes, reports, comments, and anything similar.
• Third-Party Data — catalogue data sourced from external providers including IGDB, RAWG, Wikidata, and Steam.

3. Eligibility and account

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. You agree to provide accurate account details, to keep only one account per person, and to keep your credentials confidential. You are responsible for activity on your account.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• post unlawful, harassing, hateful, or infringing content;
• impersonate any person or entity;
• spam, scrape in breach of our rate limits, or use the Service through unauthorised automated means;
• circumvent moderation, report systems, or access controls;
• interfere with the Service or attempt to gain access to data you are not entitled to.

5. User Content and licence grant

You retain all ownership rights in your User Content. You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, reproduce, and display your User Content solely for the purpose of operating the Service. This licence is not sub-licensable and is not extended to "promotion" or any commercial use. The licence ends when you delete the content or your account, subject to reasonable technical caching windows.

You are responsible for ensuring you have the rights to submit the User Content you post.

6. Moderation and takedowns

We may remove User Content or suspend accounts that breach these Terms. We aim to act proportionately. Rights-holders with a good-faith claim of infringement may contact privacy@vgdb.co with the details of the content, the right allegedly infringed, and the basis of their claim. We will review and respond in reasonable time.

7. Third-Party Data and trademarks

Third-Party Data is attributed to its source where practical. Trademarks, cover art, and other third-party material remain the property of their respective owners. Use on VGDB is for identification and editorial purposes only.

8. Modifications to the Service

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue parts of the Service. For material changes we will give reasonable notice via the changelog where practical.

9. Termination

You may close your account at any time from account settings. We may suspend or terminate your account for breach of these Terms, with notice where reasonable. Sections 10, 11, 12, 13, and 14 survive termination.

10. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the maximum extent permitted by law, we do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that Third-Party Data is complete or accurate. Nothing in these Terms excludes statutory consumer rights that cannot be excluded under UK law.

11. Limitation of liability

Nothing in these Terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any other liability that cannot lawfully be limited. Subject to that, our aggregate liability to you arising out of or in connection with these Terms is limited to the amount you have paid us in the preceding twelve months — which for a free service is £0.

12. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify us against third-party claims that arise out of your User Content or your misuse of the Service, provided we notify you of the claim promptly and let you control the defence and settlement.

13. Governing law and jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, without prejudice to any statutory consumer rights you may have in your place of residence.

14. Changes to these Terms

Material changes are announced via the changelog and reflected in the "Last updated" date at the foot of this page. Continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
