Description
The Painting War: Three Thrones is a grid-based formation-building autobattler where every battle begins on paper.
You are not shuffling cards into a deck. You are arranging an entire battle formation directly on a limited grid. Lay down sheets of paper, then place scenery, generals, soldiers, equipment, and tomes on top. Every piece has its own shape, footprint, and orientation. Rotating a portrait, merging pieces, or changing a connection can reshape your entire army.
When you march into battle, both formations are laid flat and your warriors rise from their original tiles to fight. Positioning determines who holds the front line, who is protected, which enemies can be targeted, and where abilities can reach. Combat unfolds automatically, leaving you to study what worked, understand what failed, and rebuild your formation for the next encounter.
The formation grid is not just a display area. Paper provides valid space, while scenery and portraits occupy separate layers. Every rotation, repositioning, and sacrifice changes how much room remains and where your warriors will stand in battle.
Weapons, mounts, and tomes do not fight as separate units. Connect them to the right general or soldier to grant new attributes, targeting options, and abilities.
Tomes remain on the formation and cast their effects automatically according to the connections you established before battle.
Units do not roam freely or search for paths across the battlefield. The tile you choose during preparation is the exact tile that unit will fight from.
Front-line protection, attack targets, polearm reach, ranged attacks, and ability coverage are all determined by the formation you build before deployment.
Choose between four distinct strategic paths:
• WEI, the Iron Mandate: Defense, control and steady advancement
• SHU, the Enduring Oath: Synergy, recovery and coordinated battle lines
• WU, the Rising Tide: Attack speed, ranged pressure and sustained offense
• QUN, the Unbound — Explosive power, summoning and high-risk rewards
Review who dealt damage, who came under attack, and which connections and abilities actually took effect. Adjust your positioning, links, and formation to discover a new answer using the same collection of illustrated pieces.
Inspired by the figure paintings of Wu Daozi, the game combines expressive ink linework with delicate mineral colors. Every formation is both a strategic battlefield and a living Three Kingdoms painting waiting to rise from the page.
