Description
Here, faith is both solace and order. It is the answer people rely on to survive, and a blade held in the hands of those in power.
The Deposition is a story-driven visual novel set in a fully fictional world inspired by the European Renaissance, with light fantasy elements.
The story unfolds across nations that follow the Rodelesius Church of Holy Reason. Ratio, the God of Reason, is the sole deity worshipped by the Church. His sacred laws, the authority of secular rulers, and the power of the Church together uphold the order of the age. Yet war, natural disasters, and religious conflict continue to sweep ordinary people into forces far beyond their control.
You will follow Fascino, a young man of humble birth, as he leaves a remote provincial town and gradually makes his way toward the Holy City.
There, you will encounter high-ranking clergy, nobles, arbiters, criminals, and ordinary citizens, while becoming entangled in a succession of events concerning faith, law, and human nature.
Some questions have clear answers.
More often, however, the line between right and wrong is far less certain.
One of the most important people in Fascino’s life is Ambrose, a compassionate, gentle, and devout priest whose devotion to kindness borders on obsession.
The bond between them spans years, separation, and even death.
They first meet at the most desperate moment of Fascino’s youth. Differences in status, age, experience, and faith make them two very different people, yet those same differences gradually turn them into irreplaceable presences in each other’s lives.
As the story unfolds, a relationship that begins with rescue, dependence, and companionship slowly changes. They draw closer. They quarrel. They fail to understand one another. And yet, neither can easily be replaced in the other’s life.
When personal feelings come into conflict with faith, social identity, and even the order of an entire age, what choice will you make for Fascino?
This is not only a story about two people.
As Fascino draws closer to the Holy City, a far greater world begins to reveal itself.
Grand cathedrals, crowded slums, noble estates, monasteries, and the Holy Tribunal of Ratio together form the city. Lavish ceremonies exist alongside brutal trials. People speak of mercy, salvation, and reason, even as they are forced to make choices shaped by fear and material interest.
No one is defined by a single identity. The devout may also be cruel. The cold-hearted may still offer a helping hand.
And those who stand at the very top of the sacred order possess desires, weaknesses, and obsessions of their own.
Magic truly exists in this world.
It is rare, but even a small amount is enough to change the course of someone’s life.
Some use herbs, rituals, and magical formulas to alter the body. Some seek knowledge beyond ordinary human understanding. Others, driven by a wish powerful enough, may unknowingly shift the course of fate itself.
But magic follows its own laws. Every change demands a price.
Sometimes that price is an object, a memory, or a body. Sometimes, it is the course of an entire life.
A seemingly insignificant wish may already have changed the lives of countless people without anyone realizing it.
As an ordinary person with no control over such powers, how should Fascino understand and respond to a world beyond his grasp? And amid the tide of history and the promises offered by magic, how will he find a path that belongs to him?
The Deposition is primarily a narrative experience focused on reading, character interaction, and choice.
At key moments in the story, you will make decisions for Fascino.
You may choose to believe, doubt, resist, or compromise. You may also decide how he responds to the people around him.
These choices shape the way Fascino understands the world, define his relationships with others, and ultimately lead him toward different endings.
You do not need to search for an answer that is always “correct,” nor for the ending that appears the most “rational.”
Sometimes, deciding what kind of person you want to become matters more than justice as defined by the world around you.
A fully fictional world and cast of nations inspired by the society, clothing, architecture, and atmosphere of the European Renaissance, offering an immersive historical-drama experience.
Character relationships, including Fascino’s evolving emotional bonds with multiple characters, form one of the story’s major narrative threads.
A long-form story exploring faith, power, class, law, and personal choice.
Monasteries, the Holy City, the Holy Tribunal, and other locations filled with religious and historical atmosphere.
A large cast of characters with their own beliefs, experiences, and interests. This is not a world of simple black and white. People are always moving through shades of gray.
Make choices at crucial moments and experience more than a dozen different endings, following Fascino’s changing life and relationships.
