Description
Have you ever played a tower defense game? It's always the same boring gameplay—you just have to fend off the attack.
In “Reversed”, you have to stop your opponent—and then switch sides and attack your own base.
Attackers bounce off your blocks, and every bounce wears them down. The longer you hold out, the more XP you collect. A block that forces an attacker into a long detour is worth more than one that simply stands in its way. Pinball beats walls.
You start with twelve blocks and get two more with every wave. There are fourteen different blocks to choose from, among them squat Anchors that soak up damage, long Beams that deflect the attack at sharp angles, Portals that throw balls back up the field, and Gravity Cores that catch them and sling them out again. Blocks take damage and break, and the ground they stood on stays taken for the rest of the run. You can't build there again, so your arena shrinks with every wave.
There are four elements: fire, poison, frost and shock. Attackers carry one of them, some carry two, some none. Some blocks are immune to one element and wear its colour, so you can read the strengths of a layout from the other side of the arena. Every fifth wave is led by a miniboss.
After every wave you pick one of three cards. You can heal the blocks still standing, slow the attackers down, or secure a bigger XP payout from the wave.
After the defence, your layout is rebuilt at full health. Every block you ever placed, including the ones the waves destroyed. This time you are the ball, the base has one life and a shield, and you get exactly the time you held out before to destroy your own base. The faster you break through, the higher the factor your XP is paid out with.
You spend a whole run building something. Then you find out whether you can break it.
A run earns you XP. You spend it to upgrade the blocks and balls you already own. With cores you buy new blocks, balls and cards. Every upgrade is permanent, so even a bad run is still a step forward.
In the Daily Run, everyone plays the same run on the same day, with the same blocks, cards and balls. The levels are rounds somebody laid out, each with a goal of its own, and in the level editor you build yours.
