Otherworldly Business is an action RPG with an anime-styled otherworld setting.
As a career professional living in the real world, with no warning at all, you discover a way into another world inside a computer program. After entering the otherworld, you learn the real reason behind it, along with the mysterious passages formed by countless collapsed and intersecting parallel universes. You will travel between different prime universes to complete contracts, and return to your own real world with the earnings and the loot.
Open World
The otherworld's prime universe is one seamless open world — the mainland, harbors and islands are all connected, and you can set out from the village and explore freely. Wildlife roams in herds and packs around their own habitats, monster nests and strongholds are scattered across the wilds, and goblin warbands patrol and scout the roads. Every trip out brings something different!
Combat
A soulslike-leaning combat system, but with a lighter overall style. Anime-style animation plus realistic physical feel, the interplay of combo chains, and a spell and weapon switching system will deliver a highly satisfying sense of impact plus the fun of loot hunting! And you'll unlock even more playable combat stances as you progress!
Beyond fighting on land, you can also take a warship out to sea and battle enemies in naval combat. Hulls and ship parts can be freely swapped and customised!
Classes and Weapons
Four playable classes during the demo: Knight, Warrior, Mage, Archer. After full release, you can unlock different class combat stances as you play, such as the "Spellblade", combinable "Dual Blades", and the "Spear".
Weapon types include sword and shield, greatsword, axe, hammer, bow, staff and spellbook. Different weapons vary in reach, attack speed and recovery — every class is worth experiencing yourself!
Mounts and Flight
Gallop across the open world on horseback, or mount a griffin or pegasus and soar freely through the sky, looking down over the whole continent! Defeated beasts have a chance to drop summoning stones — wolves, bears, tigers and many other beasts can become your mounts, and rare variants even glow.
World Travel
You will gradually unlock the ability to travel between otherworlds. Destinations include but are not limited to:
- An American Western region
- A post-apocalyptic city overrun by zombies
- A Japanese-style castle town
- Elven territory
- Viking territory
- A sealed dark castle
Every world has its own enemies, terrain, contracts, unique gear and rare cosmetics!!
Time and Weather System
The game has its own independent time and weather system, which is also a potential trigger condition for certain special events.
Free-form Forging
No blueprints needed! Pick the gear slot you want to forge, then throw any combination of collected materials into the furnace: the main material decides the gear's tier and look, secondary materials steer its stats, and monster parts influence its affixes. Different ratios forge completely different gear. Every ratio you discover is recorded in your recipe book automatically — the combinations you haven't tried are yours to figure out.
Every piece of gear is hammered out by your own hand, with rarity and affixes rolled per piece. Add special materials such as boss parts for a chance at top-tier exotic gear! Forging is also a life skill — the higher your level, the more forging passives you can learn.
Free Enhancement
Enhancing is hands-on hammering too: every strike can make your gear stronger — or shatter it on the spot, whatever its rarity. Quit while you're ahead, or risk one more strike? Your call! Charms, lucky stones, refining agents and other protective items can help lower the risk.
Free Trading
Every piece of gear you forge, every forging material you gather and every protective item can be traded freely. On the in-game exchange and the Steam Community Market, you can buy the gear you've had your eye on, or sell your own forged creations to other players!
Housing System
Players can buy houses in both the real world and the otherworld's prime universe, complete with a full farming system — you can grow crops yourself to make a profit or to craft special items. The housing system also provides gear upgrading and special gear crafting, and gear crafting includes cosmetic crafting! But you need to obtain the recipe beforehand.
Fantasy Towns
The demo currently features one open-world continent in the otherworld's prime universe. In the full game, villages and towns will hide all kinds of random periodic events, delivering a one-of-a-kind treasure-hunting experience! And after the full launch, once players travel to an otherworld with space-age technology, planet travel will unlock as well!
Character and Appearance
Characters have gender and a face-creation feature, currently supporting only basic adjustments such as skin tone, body type and facial features. Besides the fact that every stat-bearing piece of gear has its own appearance, the game also provides a cosmetics system; cosmetics only provide appearance variation, with no actual stat increases whatsoever. Cosmetics are obtained through purchase and through contract events.
Co-op
Online co-op is supported. Parties are formed by leader invitation — your friend accepts and enters your world directly to explore together, taking on even richer rewards!!
Monetisation
The game itself is completely free. The only paid content is cosmetics and other appearance items; nothing that affects combat power is sold.
All gear is obtained in-game, and can be traded on the in-game exchange and the Steam Community Market.
Casual and Idle Modes
When you don't feel like fighting, the game also offers a variety of casual idle mini-games you can switch to at any time. The desktop pet mode keeps your character company on your computer desktop, and while idling it also produces materials for forging gear!
There's a way to play for everyone!
