Move farther, or paint more nearby?

MOVETOON is a turn-based competitive board game about moving and painting territory with ink. Simply choose a destination and confirm. Yet
the relationship between movement distance and painting range makes every turn a meaningful decision.
How far you move changes how you paint
Move
up to 6 steps at a time. Distance follows the shortest horizontal and vertical route around holes and the opponent's piece. Ink spreads from your destination;
the path you travel is not painted.
Staying in place gives you the widest painting range. Moving 1–2 steps paints a smaller area, 3–4 steps paints nearby squares, and
5–6 steps paints only your destination. Head for distant unpainted squares or cover nearby ground in your color. You cannot stay in place on two consecutive turns of your own.
Who will have the most territory at the end?
You can repaint the opponent's color, but not the square occupied by their piece. Once all playable squares are painted,
the player with more squares of their color wins. Equal areas are a draw.
Repainting alone is not enough. Your exploration counter starts at 10.
Painting even one previously unpainted square resets it to 10; otherwise, it decreases by 1.
At zero, you lose. Fight for territory while keeping a route to fresh ground open.
20 seconds per turn, 7 maps
Each turn lasts 20 seconds. Running out of time passes your turn without moving or painting and costs 1 exploration point. Use destination and paint previews to decide your move.
Choose from 7 maps: 9×9, 7×7, Donut, H, Obstacles (5), Diamond, and Warp. Different shapes and routes change the best destination even at the same movement distance. The Warp map connects opposite gates for movement, but ink does not travel through them.
