Mortal Football

The world stopped working properly years ago. Nobody wanted to call off the football.

Ten national teams still walk out onto the pitch. The refs take cash, the crowd throws sticks, knives and bottles onto the grass, and one of the strikers turned up with a sniper rifle. The match goes on anyway.

Mortal Football is a 5v5 arcade football brawler where a goal still counts as a goal, even if you had to step over three unconscious defenders to score it. Nobody stops play for fouls, offside or throw-ins: the ball bounces off the boards and the game keeps going.

⚽ IT LOOKS LIKE FOOTBALL. IT PLAYS LIKE A FIGHTING GAME.

• A punch is quick and knocks the ball loose. A kick takes longer, but it sends the other guy flying into the boards.
• Chain your hits into combos, catch people mid-swing with a counter, and smash through the guard of anyone who hides behind it too long.
• Every fight leaves blood on the grass, and a player who gets knocked out stays down for a while as his team plays a man short.
• Your hero gets stronger during the match as he lands hits and scores.

• Every hero has two powers of his own, anything from a shoulder charge or a burst of speed to a shot on fire or a sniper rifle.
• Each national team brings its own team powers. England buys the referee, who starts beating up your rivals, and lets its hooligans over the fence. France drives the team bus across the pitch. Argentina starts a riot and the police come in with smoke bombs. Spain sends stretcher-bearers to carry off the rivals who are down, and the Netherlands plant a windmill in the centre circle that sweeps both teams.
• The stands throw weapons onto the pitch. Pick one up to hit harder, or throw it at someone.
• Two powers can go off at once, which is how you end up with a windmill spinning in a thunderstorm while the bus drives past.

🥅 AND THERE IS REAL FOOTBALL UNDER ALL OF THAT

• Charge your shot, time the release and pick your corner. Shots ring off the post, and goals go in off headers and volleys too.
• Assisted passing, long balls and crosses. Keep the ball close to protect it, or push it ahead and run at the risk of losing it.
• Any play can turn into a fight for possession, a counterattack or the best goal of your week.

🏟️ 10 NATIONAL TEAMS, 50 (UN)OFFICIAL HEROES, 10 STADIUMS

Brazil, Argentina, France, England, Spain, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Uruguay and the Netherlands, each with five parody stars you will recognize in half a second. You pick one hero and stay with him for the whole match, and when the computer runs a country, it plays that country's style.

Every stadium has its own weather, and the weather changes the match. Rain slows the ball, snow makes your powers slower to come back, and in a thunderstorm the wind pushes the ball around while lightning knocks out whoever it hits. At El Caldero the home end lights up with flares. The pitches are not all the same size, either.

🎮 ALONE, ON THE COUCH OR ONLINE

• Mortal Cup: a knockout tournament where your squad keeps what it earned from one match to the next while the rivals get tougher. Win it and a harder Cup+ opens up.
• Play against the computer at the difficulty you want, or warm up in Training.
• Up to 6 players on one screen. Stand on the same side for co-op or split up for versus, and the computer fills the empty spots.
• Online up to 5v5, with a room code or a Steam invite.
• Matches of 3, 5 or 10 minutes. Full controller support, remappable keys, English and Spanish.
• Made with Steam Deck in mind.
