About This Game
MORE THAN JUST LETTERS
LETTERBANE is a dark fantasy word roguelite where you build powerful words and show your enemies who has the last word.
Every letter stone counts. Each has its own base damage and can carry different elements, with matching elements boosting each other. Add items that change which words are worth playing, and even a short word can become a boss killer. Can you beat the bosses before your health runs out?
And yes, you can play with English or German words. Both languages have extensive dictionaries, so you'll have plenty of words to work with.
ITEMS THAT CHANGE THINGS
During your run, you'll buy items that turn your word choices upside down. They change how your words are evaluated and how much damage they deal. Maybe every repeated letter adds extra damage. Or you find good old Alphabet Soup, which rewards letters that appear in alphabetical order within your word. Don't like words in the first place? The Broken Dictionary might be more your thing.
Depending on your items, you'll have a reason to look for entirely different words. With the right setup, even an innocent little word can hit ridiculously hard.
THE POWER OF COMBINING
Some stones are weak. Others aren't much use to you right now. Maybe you can't think of a word for them, or you've simply got too many. Sell them. Or better yet, combine them into stronger versions!
Build stones with every element and a hefty dose of base damage. They even shimmer in rainbow colours. Pretty, but hardly harmless: with some clever combining, a single stone can sometimes knock an enemy out of the fight. Every letter counts!
HOW THE LETTERS FALL
LETTERBANE pays attention to what you play and adjusts the odds of the elements on your next stones. Keep playing words with an ice bonus? No problem. You're more likely to draw stones with the ice element.
The way you play influences which elements turn up more often as your run goes on. And of course, some words give bonuses to more than one element.
EVER HEARD OF A FIRE NOVA?
You have? Good. Try spelling it! A Fire Nova hits every enemy at once. Other special words have their own effects. You might get a little more than you bargained for.
Try terms that come to mind as you play, and remember what works. Next time, you'll know what to look for among your letters.
YOUR ENEMIES FIGHT BACK
As if finding the right word wasn't tricky enough, your enemies mess with your letters too. They can freeze or burn stones, steal letters, or change their values. There goes the stone you needed. Time to rethink your plan and work with what's left.
You can play LETTERBANE in turn-based or real-time mode. Turn-based gives you time to think through your words and combinations. In real time, enemies keep attacking while you're still trying to find a word.
