Description
"Fronts of Steel" is a single-player real-time operational-level wargame set on the Eastern Front of World War II, with pause and speed controls. Choose the German or Soviet side and command division-level forces on a staff map built from real geographic data. Organize breakthroughs, stabilize defensive lines, cut off enemy supplies, and plan routes for forces deep behind enemy lines to continue advancing or withdraw.

Draw operational plans directly on the map. Draw defensive lines to deploy forces, mark attack lines to organize breakthroughs, set withdrawal lines to arrange retreats, or draw encirclement rings to set up encirclements. Assign forces to plans, adjust deployments as the situation develops, and turn local advantages into opportunities for advance.

Make terrain part of your deployment. Roads, rivers, forests, and cities affect movement routes and engagement conditions, while mud and snow change the speed of advance. When choosing an axis of attack, consider how troops will get there, whether supplies can keep up, and where to withdraw if the situation deteriorates.

Use the logistics map to check supplies, establish and move forward logistics hubs, and designate priority repair sections for damaged railways. Cut enemy supply lines to weaken their ability to sustain combat; protect your own railways and hubs so frontline forces receive support. Every push deeper requires reassessing objectives and supply capacity.

Pause at any time to assess the situation, issue orders, then resume time and watch your forces act. Adjust speed as needed: expand the offensive when a breakthrough emerges, redeploy when the attack stalls, or organize a timely retreat to preserve your forces for another battle.
