A turn-based JRPG with a top-down map. Eight gods from real mythologies, a rainy night in a city where the ground gave way three weeks ago, and a sword that doesn't kill: it echoes. What you cut on the map goes into the Resonator, and you fight it turn by turn when you decide.
Description
It has been raining for hours. Three weeks ago the ground gave way in a vacant lot at the end of the street; the town hall called it sewer works and nobody asked again. That night three strangers cross paths on their way to the same place, for different reasons: a man who has seen this eleven times and never arrived in time, a woman who reads an erased name beneath the ink of a scraped, rewritten page, and a sixteen-year-old who has spent three weeks sleeping two doors down from the hole.
What lies underneath belongs to no one. It belongs to eight deities — from Egypt, India, the Norse, Mesoamerica, the Christian heaven and Japan — who have spent centuries holding up, between them, something that has already broken. Valdrenne is not a kingdom: it is what is left when the air remembers.
A classic turn-based JRPG reached through a top-down map that is played, not walked. What you cut on the map doesn't die: it goes into the Resonator. Cutting in a row builds a chain, and that chain enters the battle with you as an advantage. Taking a hit empties it, so exploring has a price — and the fight starts when you decide.
Timed hits: nail the moment when attacking for a critical hit — and, if you switch on timed defense, to blunt the blows you take.
A Resistance bar that shatters when you hit the right weakness.
Mark with Mira, detonate with Kael: marks that another character sets off.
Move theft: rip a named attack from an enemy, turn it on them and leave them without it.
Each deity brings its own magic, traits and invocation, with effects and a price that changes your decisions in battle. Combine two heroes or unleash the Trinity Resonance.
Cairo, Yucatán, Kailash, Luxor, Norway, Rome, Izumo and Iceland, each with its deity and its Echoes. Every favor you earn is also a traversal power that opens places you already walked past: leap a chasm, reveal what cannot be seen, seal what is still open.
10 chapters, optional areas, side quests and three endings.
Three difficulty levels, and a New Cycle once you finish: you keep your levels and gear, and the guardians swap zones.
Six languages: Spanish, English, French, German, Simplified Chinese and Japanese.
Full Xbox controller support from start to finish.
Respects your time: battle speed x1/x2/x3, repeat round, auto-battle against enemies far below your level, skip scenes you have already seen.
Accessibility: text size, opaque dialogue background, no screen shake or flashes, colorblind markers, remappable keys.
