About This Game
STORY
In the far distant year of 2025, Federation Navy pilot, Lucia Cabrock, secretly takes control of the experimental fighter Advanced Busterhawk Gley Lancer after her father's ship, the Oberon, was abducted during a battle with an unknown alien force. Defying orders, she takes the Gley Lancer prototype deep into hostile space to uncover his fate and bring him home.
GAME PLAY
A fast-paced side-scrolling classic style shmup built around configurable “Gunner” satellites that follow the Gley Lancer and provide additional configuration strategies and firepower. Multiple weapon types, adjustable firing directions, responsive movement through boosting and offensive/defensive mechanic (Overdrive) allow players to tailor their approach across a varied series of stages. Play to win, play for score or play for a bit of both!
VISUAL STYLE
Detailed hand drawn pixel art from the creators of Vengeance Hunters, Necro Pop, TMNT: Shredder's Revenge, Panzer Paladin and more. Bombastic space battles, vivid planetary backdrops, parallax scrolling as well as anime inspired portraits and cinematic story sequences all leveraging the power and abilities of the Neo Geo AES and MVS platform.
RE-IMAGINED FOR THE NEO GEO
Gley Lancer: Overdrive is being re-imagined for the Neo Geo as a loving salute to the original Mega Drive release. This new interpretation preserves the personality, energy, and ideas that made the original so memorable while drawing upon the Neo Geo’s distinctive audiovisual capabilities to present a fresh version of the game we know and love.
OUR APPROACH
We began development with this idea: imagine receiving the original design documents, artwork, and story concepts for Gley Lancer. Then tasked to create a parallel version of the game specifically for the Neo Geo. This was a common practice in the 90's when multiple studios were tasked with creating similar but different games for platforms they were subject matter experts of.
We have designed Gley Lancer: Overdrive by channeling that exact spirit. Gley Lancer: Overdrive pays homage to the Mega Drive original while adding some Neo Geo flavor to its stages, presentation, soundFX, soundtrack, mechanics and cinematics and more.
