Tactics where losses can stick
Intelligent Systems' tactical RPG franchise, begun on Famicom in 1990 under creator Shouzou Kaga. Lords, weapon triangles and permanent death give every grid battle real stakes.
One world. Many eras.
The Japanese years. The series took shape on Famicom and Super Famicom. Mystery of the Emblem, Genealogy of the Holy War and Thracia 776 grew its scope, all without an official western release.

Chapters
The grid where bonds matterFire EmblemThe mainline tactical RPGs from Intelligent Systems, running since 1990. Lead a named army across grid maps, manage the weapon triangle and decide how much a lost ally costs you.
Demons, gods and hard choicesShin Megami TenseiAtlus's demon-recruiting RPG line, launched on the Super Famicom in 1992. It grew out of the Megami Tensei games and keeps its bleak tone and hard choices.
A legacy worth revisiting
Fire Emblem made the strategy grid personal. Each soldier has a name, a story and, in classic mode, a real chance of dying for good. That tension between tactics and attachment has carried it from the Famicom to Switch 2, with crossovers and Warriors spin-offs along the way.
