Amanosora is a small town of around 60,000 people, formed ten years ago from the merger of the villages of Tensei and Sorami. Shikimi attends the local school with the cleaning club leader Himari and his lively kouhai Shinon. There’s a rumour at the school that the door to another world would be opened by pressing a certain sequence of buttons in the elevator at the lighthouse in the Stargazing Commemorative Hall. One day, the school committee asked the cleaning club to tidy up the interior of the lighthouse. Together with his mysterious book-reading classmate Misumi, they solved the elevator riddle while doing the cleaning. It led to the top floor of the lighthouse, which was a huge fairytale-like library. This was the other world: Remembrance. A small girl named Amahoshi awoke from her slumber and asked for their help in gathering the town’s scattered memories.

Ichinose Academy is a famous private school which is the best at everything, except its students have no romantic appeal. One fine autumn morning, the principal’s daughter Himeno declared that they will have a test to determine each student’s riajuu level. For someone who has never had a girlfriend, Hiroki naturally flunked the test. He was moved, along with five others girls who failed, to a special love training class called the "love manual". Let the lessons of love begin!

It’s the day before Hourai Shinobazu Academy’s culture festival. Taki and the rest of the Pip Club’s members are busy preparing their booth. On to way to the discount store to buy some last-minute supplies, he came upon a new store in a back alley called Kikouya (House of Tricks). Entering the shop, he was greeted by a talking cat Tetmet who took his order and brought him everything he needed, and at a bargain too. When he was about to leave, the storeowner Kuroha asked him if he would like to ‘buy time’. He was perplexed at her question, but was too worried about finishing up the club’s booth for the culture festival, muttering that ‘if he only had one more day, then everything would be done in time’. “Thank you, please come again,” said Kuroha as he left. As expected, there wasn’t enough time for them to finish their preparations, so the club members all stayed overnight at the school to finish up. Although some parts were still not completely done, they planned to give it their all. When they woke up, they began their preparations for the culture festival the next day. An extra day had been added due to Taki’s wish, and he was the only one who realized it.

During the summer vacation, Kaname was asked to help out at his family's inn in Tohoku. He had expected it to be a refreshing change from the sweltering heat in Tokyo, but when he arrived at the train station with his younger sister Kazuha, he was surprised to find that the town he once lived in, now have a huge school built in it. Boarding a crowded bus and traveling out of the city to Kusanagi Inn, he was relieved to see the familiar country scenery once again. But why are there schoolgirls in the inn? The owner told him that they were students from Jinza Gakuen in the city, but due to an incident they couldn’t stay in their dormitory, so she let them stay at the inn for the summer. That’s why he was needed there: there was a need for more staff to look after the girls. Furthermore, he had one more thing on his mind. The mischievous Zashiki-warashi that lived in the inn, because of whom he ends up returning to the countryside for good.
