If you’ve never played interactive fiction before, or have poked at a few games but didn’t feel like you really knew what you were doing, start here. A short text adventure guided towards helping newcomers to the genre understand the rules and nature of IF.

You are a yet another brave adventurer set upon the quest to slay the mighty dragon that is threatening the village! Following the questing traditon, you decide to start your search for the dragon in the local tavern! What makes this quest different? It takes place on the worldz best BBS! hehehe!!! A piece of interactive fiction by Adam Cadre.

We're treated to a short and unusual vignette, and then realize it was just a dream. Eugene Oregon wakes up on a futon in his living room. A loud crash outside arrests his attention.

You are locked in a cell, a position that is not unfamiliar to you- it's one of the hazards of the job. You decided to try one last, big job, and now you are locked in the deepest, darkest dungeon of King Tyrak II. This time they seem to actually be taking your incarceration more seriously than usual. There also seems to be no intention of ever letting you out, even for a rigged trial, so you will need to take your escape very seriously.

A piece of Interactive Fiction written by Adam Cadre. Is on the list Interactive Fiction Top 50 of all time (2015 edition).

The phone rings. Oh, no — how long have you been asleep? Sure, it was a tough night, but... This is bad. This is very bad.

You are Primo Varicella, Palace Minister at the Palazzo del Piemonte. This title is unlikely to impress anyone. Piedmont is the laughingstock of the Carolingian League, and the Palace Ministry has devolved into little more than a glorified (and not even especially glorified) butlership. But now that King Charles has died of a sudden illness, you have a prime opportunity to advance your position by becoming the regent of the five-year-old Prince Charles. Your fellow ministers will no doubt try all sorts of unseemly tactics in their quest for the throne. Some will try bribery. Others will employ treachery. A few may even resort to brute force. But would Primo Varicella stoop to using one of these methods? Perish the thought! You're better than that. You shall employ all three.

Photopia is a short, narrative-driven piece of interactive fiction. Written by Adam Cadre in 1998, it won first place in that year's Interactive Fiction Competition.
