Thief is a first-person stealth game that likes the dark. You sneak through the ruins of haunted cathedrals, subterranean ruins, and forbidding prisons, in a dark and sinister city - heavily inspired by Steampunk and the Dark Ages. Garrett finds an ally in the shadows, as he steals for money and uncovers the hidden agendas of allies and enemies. The story that unravels is one of deception and revenge.
Before you press start
Thief Gold is The Dark Project with three added levels and bug fixes, so it is the version to play. Follow it with The Metal Age and Deadly Shadows. The 2014 Thief is a reboot that reimagines Garrett and stands alone.
More than the main path
Thief asks you to read light and listen. The Light Gem shows how exposed Garrett is, water arrows douse torches, moss arrows muffle footsteps, and every noise can bring the guards. Looking Glass made two games, Ion Storm the third, and Eidos-Montréal rebooted the lot in 2014.
