The player can take control of American, British, Russian, or German forces to play out battles that are set in World War II. The game is primarily a strategy game, but the player can take control of his or her forces and direct them with the keyboard and mouse for additional depth of control.
Before you press start
Campaigns stand alone, so order is a matter of taste. Men of War is a sound first stop for single-player, and Assault Squad 2 suits anyone after skirmishes. Go back to Soldiers and Faces of War to see where it began.
More than the main path
Soldiers and Faces of War built the foundations, and Men of War gave the line its lasting name. You command small units, often badly outnumbered, with infantry and vehicles working together. Digitalmindsoft's Assault Squad games took it towards larger skirmishes, while Vietnam left World War II behind.

Silent Heroes: Elite Troops of WWII is a stand-alone game based on Soldiers: Heroes of World War II engine and more orientated on Direct Control than on group control like Faces of War does. Player commands a group of 6 soviet saboteurs who must complete extremely hard missions at the rear of the German army. The game features 10 saboteurs mission assembled into one story-driven campaign with player changing the course of war by destroying enemy radar installations, kidnapping enemy officers and hunting down legendary German Tigers. The game is fully orientated on single player campaign and doesn't feature any multiplayer modes.
Faces of War puts you in the heart of World War II – not as a distant commander, but as the leader on the ground. Combining the tactical depth of real-time strategy with the immediacy of direct control, it lets you issue precise orders or jump straight into battle as one of your soldiers.
