Rip, tear, repeat
id Software's 1993 shooter set the template for the first-person genre. Decades on, Doom still means one marine, a very large arsenal and the whole of Hell on the wrong end of it.
One world. Many eras.
The classics. Doom and Doom II set the rules: big guns, mazy levels, no reloading. Final Doom and the moodier Doom 64 pushed the same formula further.

A legacy worth revisiting
The original packed speed, shotguns and demons into a game modders are still pulling apart. Doom 3 tried slow horror in 2004, then the 2016 reboot brought back the pace. Eternal added platforming and resource juggling, and The Dark Ages went for a heavy medieval stomp.
